FIRST IMPRESSIONS
His gaze is sharp, and he's taking in every detail of a room, and scrutinizing you as he tries to anticipate what you want.
Anyone with an enhanced sense of smell might notice something off about the scent of his blood. Something in it smells kind of like motor oil.
If you're bigger than he is, he'll be guarded, looking for any sign you might be untrustworthy, and trying to suss out what you want from him. He'll be keeping an eye out for exit routes and/or hiding spots.
If you're smaller than him, he'll be trying to discern if you need help, and if there's anything he can do.
PERSONALITY
Dylan is analytical, straightforward, and empathetic. He's keenly aware of how the people around him are feeling; Reading body language was a survival skill in his early years, but as he grew he took to using bluster and bravado as a defense mechanism. If he has a problem with someone, he will say so, with the exact amount of respect he thinks they deserve — Even if that amount is "none."Dylan prioritizes taking care of the people around him, particularly those smaller or weaker than himself. He'll put himself in danger to protect them and sacrifice his own comfort for their well-being. Having been neglected by his caretakers growing up, Dylan's overcompensating in the other direction, taking responsibilities onto his shoulders that are often more than he can handle.
Deep down, Dylan is angry, more than he realizes or lets himself feel. The world has dumped problem after problem on his shoulders. He's been hurt and betrayed by people he trusted, and he's long since learned that he can't depend on adults. That anger has sharpened into ferocity and resolve; He's determined to be the kind of caretaker and protector that he wishes he'd had.
HISTORY
Dylan was born to three biological parents: Anne Weying, Eddie Brock, and the Venom Symbiote. Shortly after his birth, Anne was struggling with her own depression and PTSD, and left Dylan to live with his grandfather. She soon passed away.
Dylan spent the first 12 years of his life believe that his grandfather, Carl Brock, was actually his father. Carl was an abusive alcoholic, and Dylan spent much of his childhood learning to navigate Carl's temper. He became pretty adept at lying and sneaking out to keep himself safe.
Eventually, Eddie Brock and Dylan were reunited, and Dylan was swept into the chaotic world of life with symbiotes. There were plenty of near-death experiences, including a run-in with Carnage that resulted in Dylan reuniting with his gooey sibling, Sleeper. Eventually Dylan discovered that he, himself, had symbiote-adjacent powers: He could mentally connect with them, sense their presence, and even remote-pilot them.
Turns out he had these powers for a reason: He existed as a counterbalance to Knull, the Symbiote God. When Knull invaded the Earth, Dylan's powers were instrumental in infiltrating his stronghold and taking him down for good. In the aftermath of the battle, Dylan lost most of his powers, but would slowly regain the power to psychically connect to the symbiote hive.
With Knull gone, the title of Symbiote God passed to Eddie. The responsibilities resulted in him leaving home for longer and longer stretches of time, leaving Dylan feeling neglected. However, time-travel shenanigans very suddenly resulted in the apparent death of Eddie, and Dylan on the run from both Alchemax and an organization called The Absent Throne. In desperation, Dylan bonded to the Venom symbiote and took on the mantle of Venom himself.
Homeless and on the run, Dylan had reason to believe that his father was still out there, and traveled the country searching for him. He hitchhiked, stowed away on trains, and periodically took odd jobs for money & a place to sleep. He took any method he could to keep following the scraps of information he could find.
Eventually, Dylan discovered that his father was trapped in some kind of self-contained time loop, fighting echoes of himself at different points in his timeline, and those echoes were periodically interfering in Dylan's life: Sometimes to help him, sometimes to hurt him, and it wasn't always clear which. One thing he did know, however, is that he'd need to gather his own forces to be ready when Eddie's time loop reached a breaking point.
Eventually, the time loop converged back in New York, where Dylan and Eddie's showdown was interrupted by Meridius, the corrupted "final form" of Eddie, and Carnage. As they struggled for control of the fight, Carnage started taking control of Eddie. Dylan and Venom were infused with a special anti-Carnage matter called Egenrac, and to take his worst sibling down, Dylan was forced to stab Eddie right through.
Due to the ripple effect the Egenrac was having on the Venom Symbiote, it began to break down. Knowing that Dylan was half-symbiote, it tore itself away from Dylan, telling him "I love you, son" before getting as far away as possible.
